Cosmetic Restorations

Cosmetic Restorations at Southington Family Dentistry

Restoring Your Smile

How does a restored smile improve your life?

•  The confidence to display those 'pearly whites' in any social situation or professional engagement.
•  The ease to share in a joke without concern for how your teeth look.
•  The assurance that you look your best.

It's easy to take a smile for granted, unless you're self-conscious about yours. In that case, you may spend more time and thought on hiding your smile than enjoying the moment. Natural imperfections, accidental damage, or tooth decay have always caused embarrassment and social anxiety. Modern cosmetic dentistry has taken restorative procedures to beyond fixing the structural and functional issues with your teeth. We have studied and trained extensively the concepts of smile design and the usage of dental materials that create the best possible smile for an individual.

Composite Fillings

For many decades, cavities were filled with amalgam. Still used today, amalgam is very strong material. However, it does have some major disadvantages. It is silver in color, which makes it stand out against the rest of the tooth (which can ruin the aesthetics of your smile). It contains both metals and mercury. Many dental patients are uncomfortable with the idea of mercury in their fillings. Amalgam fillings also require drilling more of the tooth’s structure away than just the decay.

Composite dental fillings are different. Composite resin, a mixture of fine glass, plastic, and other materials, is used to fill in the cavity. The material is not as strong as amalgam (although it can stand up to most normal daily wear and tear), but it does blend in beautifully with your enamel, making it ideal for cavities that affect the teeth visible when you smile.

Procelain Crowns

A crown is a covering that will wrap and protect the entire surface of a tooth, allowing it to look and function just like the original tooth. Crowns work to strengthen the tooth while protecting the existing structure, extending the life of the tooth longer than it would be with a filling or another restoration. The all porcelain crown is one of the most aesthetically pleasing options and blends well with you other teeth.

Porcelain Bridges

Dental bridges are fixed appliances that will work to restore the structure and function of your teeth after tooth loss. These appliances are non-removable, so they will become a permanent part of your smile. There are many different types of bridges, and we can help you to choose the option that is right for your unique dental needs.

At Southington Family Dentistry we provide our patients with fixed bridges made out of porcelain for the most realistic and attractive results.
